About Me

I've set this small site up to demonstrate some of the software development work I've done over the last few years. It's intended primarily as an introduction to employers looking to hire an experienced programmer or web application developer.
Just a little about me. I've been married for a little over 6 years and have a 5 year old son named Connor and a 2 year old daughter named Kayla. I started programming when I was about 10 on a Commodore 64, but have been programming professionally since around 1997.
I like programming and software design of just about any kind. I've developed for Macs, PCs, and Linux servers. I've programmed low-level languages like Assembly and C and I've coded in very high level languages like VB and Filemaker Pro. I've programmed Palm Pilots and Basic STAMP kits. I've build large-scale business applications using conventional technologies like Java, and have built 3D games using DirectX and OpenGL (seen above).
I've spent the last few years working primarily with web technologies. For those of us that have had to deal with versioning and distribution of applications/documents, it's hard not to find an HTML/browser based framework very appealing.
Somewhere around 1997 I started out learning static HTML and soon worked my way into CGI using Perl scripts and C binaries. CGI was a huge epiphany to me once I realized its purpose. I recognized pretty quickly that it would someday be a very useful way of delivering ynamic content. Unfortunately CGI in those days was awkward. It was diificult to setup, difficult to debug, and required a lot of work to do simple things. Thankfully, in 99, a friend introduced me to a relatively immature version of PHP and I quickly became obsessed with web development.
I especially enjoy working closely with people in the business world, watching what they do, spending some time trying to understand their processes, and then building a solution that makes their job easier, faster, and/or cost less to do. If you'd like to see examples of this, please watch a few of the videos I've included in my portfolio.
